Carl: Give it up dude, this girl clearly has no feelings for you. She just doesn't like you in that way.
Graham: Maybe she just doesn't like me at all...
Carl: You're friends, right? Then she does like you, just not enough to go out with you.
Graham: Bullocks. She certainly seems to care enough about me in that way.
Carl: How so?
Graham: Her excuse for not going out with me is... Wait for it... Drum roll please... That I deserve better than her.
Carl: Don't seem that way to me. She's probably coming from a friend's point of view.
Graham: If she really were coming from a friend's point of view on this, she'd say it outright, plain and simply that she doesn't like me. Spare me from indecision, you know?
Carl: Okay... Since you put it that way, maybe she doesn't want to hurt you with the words "I don't like you" ?
Graham: Well, that's all well and truly nice of her, but she just doesn't get it.
Carl: How do you know that she doesn't get it? Have you thought of it from her point of view?
Graham: Hell yes. Every single excuse she's tried to come up with, I just think it's plain implausible. Not good enough. Give me anything, and I'll say something back.
Carl: You're on. Ten bucks if I win.
Graham: Fine.
Carl and Graham shake hands.
Carl: She doesn't want to hurt you.
Graham: It's already hurting this much not doing anything. I think she's more than worth the pain.
Carl: She thinks you deserve better.
Graham: For what it's worth, there is no better than her.
Carl: She says she's not actually all that great, especially on the inside. She's flawed.
Graham: But that's exactly what I like about her.
Carl: Right. You got me there. What if she thinks she's flawed because of everyone around her? She wants to change herself.
Graham: They can all go to hell. That's how I like her, and I'll show her everyday that's exactly how she should be. She's perfect the way she is... To me, anyway. And even if she does change, I'll still like who she is. Through thick and thin.
Carl: She seriously just wants to stay friends. She doesn't think it'll work out.
Graham: I'll respect that, but it'll take time for me to get over her. A long time. But. How will we know, if we've never tried?
Carl: She says she's nothing.
Graham: She's everything to me.
